Summer in Texas can be brutal with temperatures sometimes soaring to 108 degrees. So a home, 90 years ago, would be built to catch as much of the summer breeze as possible.
The farmhouse, true to that fact, faces south with an enclosed porch across the front. The sheer curtains catch the breeze giving you a feeling of utter peace. This is where I eat breakfast most mornings. Somtimes it's necessary to wrap up in a quilt....
It was not a finished room. It would be like camping out, except that you have a roof overhead.
And a bathroom with tub and shower...
It has not been an easy climb...no pun intended!
Looking back at the first photos of the place I now call home, I might not have attempted to bring it back to life. The farm is not the first home I have remodeled, but it has, by far, been the most difficult. All these decisions and struggles I shouldered alone.
Hello Girls! |
Meggie Mac
Oh I would give anything for some hot days..we are in the middle of Winter here!
ReplyDeleteMy dream is to move further down South and live in a little cottage by the sea.
Your home looks delightful, you have worked so hard. :0)
Our winters are back and forth...one night it will be 28 degrees, then a few days later it will be up to 70 degrees. I hope you get your dream home by the sea!
DeleteGosh Meggie, how brave you were to take on such a big project on your own, your farmhouse now looks a beautiful place to live.......through all your hard work I'm sure. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lily. It was a pay as you go project. It is still in the works....probably never being finished!
DeleteGoodness, Meggie. That was an enormous project, but what a beautiful home you have created. It is classy, elegant and yet comfortable. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteThe bedhead looks as though it could be made from some rather lovely old doors - is that right? Those hanging glass panels are a lovely idea. Nothing comes from nothing, so I know that a lot of hard work and careful planning went into it. It is wonderful!
You have a good eye for detail! I was thinking I would do another post on the furniture for the upstairs. As you can see by the photo, the stairs is enclosed, narrow, and very steep. I could not take "whole" pieces of furniture up there. You are correct on the bedboard for the bed. I put two old doors together, plus some details I had purchased at a salvage store. The mattress is a "Sleep Number" because a regular queen would not fit the stairs. By the way, my bedroom takes up the entire upstairs.
DeleteWow - I think I'm suffering from porch envy now!! You are creating a beautiful house. Thank you for sharing these photos. Jx
ReplyDeleteOh Meggie your home is beautiful. There is such an air of tranquility and peace about the place. It's just wonderful. x
ReplyDeleteOh yes: country living is my dream !
ReplyDeleteYou have been very busy, what a big project! But so worth it when you see the "after" pictures. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home xxx
ReplyDeleteYou have an absolutely stunning home and I love your sense of style. The country life is absolutely the best - I'm with you on that for sure! :)
