Stylish Market Tote
I've surprised myself by completing two sewing projects this week.
The market tote idea came from the same book I used for the mouse pin cushion.
You probably have several tote bags for the market. But, what I like about this tote are the wide long straps that can go over your shoulder. I've made the bottom and the lining from a sturdy woven fabric. The top part can reflect your style or purpose for the bag. Because the straps are part of the tote, there is no chance for a strap to pull loose when carrying your items.
You could just as easily make it out of a vinyl table cloth (thrifted) and use it as a beach bag or a rainy-day bag.
On my next tote to sew, I have changed out the print to be on the bottom half. If you decide to give this project a try, this is the link with complete instructions.
Let your imagination free and make one in your very own style....

I love this too...you are on fire right now! I just started Pinterest so am going to 'practice" pinning this as I see you have a "pin it" tab! I have had a hankering to make a tote and this really looks easy...thanks!
ReplyDeletePinterest is addicting! I do have a page of favorites, but I have too much on my plate to look everyday.
DeleteI know...I swore that I would not become involved with it, as blogging takes enough of my time...but I am only using it like I use "bookmark". I don't do Facebook often or Twitter at all~ blogging is my only vice! :)
DeleteThat's lovely Meggie- another one for me to add to the 'to do' list. I finished a patchwork curtain today, and pinned up the patches for another. I'm lining them aswell and I'm really happy with them- they make me smile as the colours are so bright and cheery. They are really going to brighten up the kitchen, which should be finished next week!
ReplyDeleteI know you are ready for the kitchen to be completed. Don't forget to photograph as you go. I really like your idea of the patchwork curtains.
DeleteI fully intended to get to work on a little mouse or two today, unfortunately the time ran away with me while I was doing other things. Guess what is top of my list for tomorrow though! I am really impatient to have a go. This bag looks like a great project too - as Scarlet said, another one to add to the 'to do' list.
ReplyDeleteThe tote bag was a surprise gift for my daughter. Knowing it is a gift, always gives me the incentive to finish in a hurry. Projects for myself seem to take longer.
DeleteThese are great, Meggie. Thanks for the link xxx
ReplyDeleteI love that link....so many great ideas....all we need is more time to work on them!
DeleteI love that bag. Congratulations Meggie !
ReplyDeleteLove the tote! I find I get to work on my creative projects much faster when they have been promised to other people. And I get so much pleasure from working on a gift that gives pleasure to someone else.
ReplyDeleteYou are clever,I wouldn't know where to start to make something like that. What a useful bag! I can never have too many shopping bags! :0)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! I love it. Thanks for sharing all your handmade goodness :)
