The New Studio

It is just the beginning of a small renovation. The movers brought a truck load of boxes to Das Kleine Haus this week. With so much chaos around me, I felt like I needed, at the very least, get the inside walls of the old 10' x 10' storage building finished.

Do you understand the need for one spot that has some sort of peace about it?

Here is what it looked like just a few weeks ago. The very narrow door was coming apart.

The shed was originally used to store gardening tools and many old paint cans from previous projects.

Left inside, from a previous owner, was a wonderful shelving unit that appears to have been part of an old hutch. Lucky for me, I know exactly how I can use it to store my art supplies.

Walls are now up, brushes are out and there is a project on the table.

The (pre-owned hutch) shelving has been hung and supplies are beginning to fill the area.

Some of my finished projects are hung on the walls. This is one I painted many years ago of my two youngest children. While on holiday, during the winter time, the family was searching for sea shells.

My work table, located in front of the only window, has a view of these lovely roses.

So, until the moving boxes are unpacked, and furniture arrives, the Wizard (me) will be in and out of the studio searching for some quiet time........

  1. Oh yes, we all need a quiet peaceful area where we can just 'be'...without distractions.
The painting of your children evokes that sense of peace perfectly.

    1. Hello Jane....I think that is why I decided to hang the shore line painting in the studio...it is a peaceful setting of the ocean.

  2. I understand your sentiments precisely. Even if my living room and kitchen are messed up, I always keep the dining room pristine. I like to look at the china hutch, table with a pretty tablecloth and the decor as a separate, serene place.

    1. Not too bad for a 10' x 10' shed! So far, everything fits...

  4. I not only know what you mean about having a place of peace, but have it on my To Do list next week to "gut" my office and turn it into a clean place of peaceful productivity. I work from home and it's become a mess. Mine doesn't have a window though (used to be half of our garage), much less one with a view of roses!

    Love your painting!

    1. Good luck with your project....you will feel so much better about "your space". Maybe you can find an inexpensive print of the outdoors and install an old window frame over it...and fake the outdoors!

  5. That is a big transformation in such a short time - and what a difference that door makes, although I feel it is the red watering can which really makes the difference! Enjoy that haven of tranquility.

Your painting is really lovely...the wet sand on the beach actually looks wet - beautifully done.

    1. Thanks, Elaine....I only photograph the organized spots. It still needs some work, including some paint around the window and door frames. You know how badly I wanted a red door. The red watering can will remind me of "The English Cottage".

  6. Looks great Meggie and I completely understand why you need that one place sorting first. Love your picture of the children on the beach, how gorgeous and how talented you are.

    1. Thanks, Anne....It still has a way to go until finished, but at least, I can sit at the desk and look out at the pretty roses!

    1. Hi Susan....I think we all need a space of our own, even if it is in a closet space. My friend, you are the one with the talent!

    1. Hello Janet....I'm so glad to hear from you. How are things in your part of Texas? The studio is tight, but it will work! I play around with acrylics.....
