Where is Home?

Morning Sunlite Across My Headboard
Calling Das Kleine Haus home doesn't feel right....at the moment.

You know how it is, when you are on vacation and first wake in the morning. For a split second you are not sure where you are. That is how I felt waking up the first morning at Das Kleine Haus.

It didn't take long before I saw all my clothes packed in plastic containers...and remembered, I have moved.

Taking the first peek downstairs...yes, it is my furniture, just re-arranged somewhat. The big pieces of furniture are in place with everything else lined up against each wall.

The artwork in containers

Lamps. baskets and chairs, organized by categories, just waiting to be chosen for a new spot in the Haus.

It will take time to sort through it all. I'm hoping you will enjoy watching as I take on my new life at Das Kleine Haus on the Prairie.

  3. Oh, Meggie, it takes a LOOOONG time to feel like where you are is HOME. Knowing you, that will be sooner rather than later - you'll have it whipped into shape in no time. I always end up changing things around a lot in the first year as we get to know the house and the way that we live in it.

    1. I think that is why it was important for me to first place the big pieces of furniture. All the rest will take more time to think about.

    2. I'm nearing the third year in my house, and still moving stuff around! And don't even ask about the painting that still needs to be done ;) I need superpowers like you, Meggie!

  4. We had two cats...they travelled all over with us when hubby was in the Royal Navy, then emigrated to Canada with us. A bed, food bowls, a litter tray, and us was all they ever needed to feel at home.We have moved a lot but each time I remember the cat's attitude. 'Home' is a choice,I think.

    1. I like that line...."Home is a choice". Now, if only I can find my food bowl...laughing.

  5. Take it from someone who has moved a lot...Home is where You make it and just looking at your beloved pieces of furniture, baskets, etc., I know it won't take you long to nestle in. Remember, a new chapter awaits you with all it's marvels. I know I can't wait to see it unfold, dearest friend, XOXO

  6. Glad the move went smoothly. I always take a long time to decide where to hang the pictures. Everything else seems to fall into place but pictures take forethought and commitment!

  9. I've only moved a few times in my 41 year marriage, but I remember it takes time to make a house feel like home. Our present house took a while to feel like home. It was after painting some rooms and redoing a few things myself, getting my things on the walls, etc, then it started to feel like mine and home. Yours will be home in no time. It's looks charming already! Best of luck to you!!

  11. Das Kleine Haus looks warm and inviting! Enjoy putting everything in it's place and making it your own! We have moved into a small one-bedroom apartment with most of our stuff in storage. We have been looking at land and looking at houses for weeks on end, and we have decided that it's time to stop looking and make a decision or we'll be looking foreover! I'm ready to be in a home of our own with all of my things around me!

  12. Hello Jan....I guess you know how I am feeling with so much packed away in containers. At least, I do have my own bed set up...the rest will take time. Keep me posted on your next move.

  13. When ever we have moved which isn't too many times, but the first thing we always put up is the bed and the second is sort the kitchen cupboards out. After that you can take your time.

    Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Christy...I totally agree with you. And that is what I have done. The bed is made, the kitchen cupboards are organized, and the fridge has food in it. The rest will just take time.

  14. I am glad to see that you are moved in the new "old" house. I'm sure it was a lot of work but will be so worth it, in the end. The house looks lovely and I look forward to seeing more of it as you get settled. I hope you have time to check my blog today and find the Award that I have given you..

  15. Ditto what Christy said (and I have moved too many times to count), only to add that I really know I'm home when my "special" pieces either get hung on the walls or placed on shelves.
