Follow me....across this wooden bridge.
Usually, when I drive the back roads, I don't have a particular subject in mind. But, today, I was looking for a a herd of Bison (American Buffalo).
I did find them... even zooming in, they were too far away for my camera to get a good shot.
The story of the Bison will be left for another day...just as soon as I can find a way to get closer to them.

Can a Longhorn be aloof ? He certainly appears that way, as he stood there ignoring me.
He looks innocent enough.
I noticed that not all horns grow the same. Some turn back towards the body.
I believe the one on the right has spotted me.
I know there is a barbed wire fence between us. But, when the herd started moving closer to me, I thought it was best I get back in my truck....

I would have done the same. Gorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb....the sun was so bright it made the prairie grass look golden!
DeleteAmazing so different from my back roads....Heidi
ReplyDeleteHello Heidi...many times the back roads are two lanes with a center line...this is obviously a single lane. When you meet an on-coming truck, you simply pull over in the grass.
DeleteI agree...very different from our back roads, but those steers (and the buffalo) are just magnificent! "Take me home, country roads..." XOXO
ReplyDeleteFunny you should quote the lyrics to that song...sometimes, I really do sing them when out here driving around. It is beautiful country where I live!
DeleteLove the back road shots. Terrific photos of the longhorns, too! I'd definitely keep a fence between them and me!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl....I once owned a pair of them. You keep a healthy respect for those horns!
DeleteLooks like you are enjoying some lovely spring weather! Jx
ReplyDeleteHi Jan...it has been beautiful here...in the middle 70's during the day.
DeleteI love those Longhorns, especially the white one with brown splodges...and that wonderful bison. Big animals in a big country.
ReplyDeleteHello Elaine...did you know the Bison is from 7' to ll' tall. That is big !!
DeleteThis is a great post Meggie,
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a Bison.. only on nat geo.. or films.
You were lucky to see them.
I like to drive on our back roads sometimes.. its fun and we see something different.
Beautiful longhorns...
val
Hello Val....thanks. When you are out on the prairie and you see them, it takes you back a hundred years...like the "Old West" with the pioneers. It is very moving to watch them grazing.
DeleteThe first shot is beautiful! Love those Longhorns! Very majestic!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian....I would love to see you photograph the Bison with your wonderful camera and creativity.
DeleteYou were no doubt the most interesting thing that happened to them all day!
ReplyDeleteI believe the longhorns thought I was going to feed them.
DeleteFrom my point of view all what you describe and show in your photos is so interesting and American and exotic!
ReplyDeleteHello Maarit...thanks for reading my blog. I, also, find your blog interesting. Your home and life in Finland is also very interesting.
DeleteI love the longhorn shots...seems like we run into a few of them around here. I always wonder why people have them...I mean is there some advantage to them. Or do they just have them cause they are different.
ReplyDeleteThen there is one place we pass fairly regularly...they got about half a dozen of them...maybe 2 or 3 more...had them for just a few months...then we go back by and they are gone. I so wonder what happened to them and why they no longer have them.
