The first building of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and school, opened in 1890. In 1906, it was destroyed from the far-reaching effects of a hurricane, in the Gulf of Mexico. Shortly after the church was re-built, it was destroyed by fire.
There must have been a vast amount of determination and faith in this community. The church building, in the photo, was built after the fire.
Not a cloud in the sky, with the warm sun shining down on this historical church.
In 2012, I photographed the beautiful hand-painted interiors. Please click HERE to re-visit that post. You won't be disappointed in the stenciled "pink" ceiling.
Spring has definitely arrived on the prairie, with the native redbuds in full bloom.
Happy Palm Sunday.

DeleteBeautiful church, I admire the determination of the folks who kept rebuilding it.
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous church in the country..and I love the redbud tree. When my redbud blooms, it is my favorite time of the year. I have 2 and they were both volunteers. The smaller one had a hard time blooming and leafing out last year, I hope it came through this winter okay.
