New Plans for a Life in the Country

For several weeks I have been struggling with a way to introduce the next chapter in my life.

I'm reminded of a line from my beloved Outlander Series...Claire says to Jamie, as he is awkwardly trying to ask a question,
"Out with it."

So here it is.....I have permanently moved back to the Prairie.

The truth is, I never did let go. This past year is an indication, in how I went back and forth with my posts. Each month, I would travel to familiar places to photograph, and enjoy my friends on the prairie.
A Back View
I've started a new project, with the buying of a 1920's Craftsman Bungalow, including a Studio for my creative side, and mini-barn.

So much work ahead, to make it my own.

The best part of this house is that it is original.

Plenty of natural light, as you can see by the reflections on the floors.

Although the kitchen is in need of new counter tops and sink, I will definitely be keeping the original kitchen cabinets.

The ceilings tiles will also stay.

Even the shiplap boards, on the walls, will stay.

Here is the original built-in china hutch.

Hope you will follow my latest adventure....
as I settle in, once again,
on the Prairie where I belong.

  4. Hi Meggie - How wonderful for you. What a fun time ahead settling in and making this very beautiful home your own. A mini barn - what I would give for that. Can't wait to see what you do with that. I love the craftsman style house and look forward to getting ours up. Still lots of work ahead for both you and me. Enjoy it all. Glad you are 'Home'.

    1. Hello Deb.....sometimes I think it would have been easier to build something new....not sure, but I love the challenge of an older home. Also, I like saving a piece of history. I am following your efforts, too! I still can't believe how hot it is where you live. I always have thought of Canada as having such mild weather.

  6. The house looks beautiful! It takes a lot of courage to take on these projects. Best of luck and congrats on "going home". I once lived in the forest for a few years but the prairie girl in me had to get home where I could see and breathe again. I really do understand. Good luck!

    1. So you totally get it....the home in the forest was nice and a newer finished home. But, I just couldn't breathe there and I hated the fact that I couldn't see the horizon.

  7. It is hard to take the country of a person. It is such a different life and more healthy. Wish you the best. I have always lived in Texas and never knew about the city until I was a teenager. Most of my life was in the country. However, now at my age, city life is easier on me.

  8. Meggie, you are one ambitious gal..I have followed you through the Farmhouse renovation and move and then to the Cottage on the edge of the forest. I love how you make each house your home!! I love older homes and the character they bring with them. Looking forward to "helping" you with new/old house. I can't wait to see what you do with it...welcome home!!

  9. Oh, I love your new prairie home. I grew up in a craftsman 4-square, but the only one of your wonderful amenities we had was that gorgeous china cabinet. Our walls were lathe and plaster. Beautiful, beautiful house with such beautiful finished wood floors. I'm so looking forward to watching your adventure--and seeing your studio space!
